How to make homemade sushi rolls

Last weekend I finally got around to making homemade sushi and it actually wasn't as hard as I thought! The boyfriend and I ventured to Sainsbury's to buy the tools and ingredients (minus the pre-purchased avocado and soy sauce) which came to just under £17.00:

We found that preparing these homemade sushi rolls took a lot longer than eating them, so make sure that you have put plenty of time aside for this.

I have been waiting in anticipation for the new Lush store on Oxford Street to open for weeks and on Friday, my wish came true. To beard or not to beard?

As my blog is titled 'Bearded Couture', I thought it was about time that I actually posted something related to beards. Now, there has always been a debate whether guys look better with or without facial hair so I have decided to settle this once and for all.

Since the age of 17, I have always had some form of facial hair to try and make myself look a bit older and get into nightclubs. I decided to grow what is known as a 'chin strap' with an added mustache and it was far from stylish. Luckily, as I grew up and my style changed, I grew this out and started to grow manly stubble. Grrr. Since then, I haven't actually shaved once. I bet you are all thinking "but how has it stayed the same length?!" Well the answer to this question, which I do often receive, is to trim. Shock.

My stubble has varied in length over the years but now I tend to trim it every two weeks. As you can probably guess, I am not the most rugged guy around and like to keep myself looking pristine. I personally prefer having a beard as it gives a more rugged and manly persona. If I didn't have one, I think I would look a bit odd and potentially, a bit girly.

I think it is pretty obvious that beards have huge sex appeal and it expresses that the man is masculine, rugged and more dominant in the bedroom. I guess it dates back to the Stone Age with cavemen. Not that I am attracted to cavemen. It also add more definition to your face and gives the impression that the bearded hunk is trendy, older, sophisticated and a bit of a bad ass. Come on. Everyone likes a bad boy.

What does your bedroom say about you? *

Have you ever heard the saying ‘tidy room, tidy mind’? Well, your bedroom can say much more about you than that! From the colour palette to the furnishings, the eye of an interior designer can decode your decorating to see what person lives between the four walls. You might not design your room to give off this specific idea, but your subconscious guides you to elements that say more than ‘ooh, doesn’t that look nice?’

Recently, I was contacted Samuel Charles Interiors who wanted to find out exactly what my room said about me. So they took a peek behind my bedroom door to uncover exactly who I really am.

"Looking at Michael’s modern room, you instantly gain plenty of positive vibes. Light wooden furnishings, colourful bedding and a decent-sized space to customise exactly how he wants, there’s lots going on.

One thing we noticed was the emphasis on lighting. Light wooden furnishings, beautiful fresh flowers and reflecting white walls, yet the curtains are closed!

Those big beautiful windows should be used to illuminate the room to its full potential. Brighter coloured curtains would invite the sunrays into your room for a seamless transition. The darker curtains currently create a black halo around your windows, taking away part of the sunshine. If you’re concerned about the lighter mornings disrupting your sleep, keep an eye out for a heavier fabric and maybe even give yourself a little DIY project to make a new set yourself!

I'm a lucky, lucky boy

I am not one for PDA or talking about relationships online but I think this one deserves a little mention. These last two and a half weeks have been long but well worth the wait.

Recently, my boyfriend went back to Australia to see his family and take full advantage of the Easter holidays. Even though he was on the other side of the world, he hadn't forgotten about little old me. Last week, I received a special surprise at work when a big bouquet of pink tulips turned up for me in the post *blushes*. Reception rang my work phone and said that they had some flowers for me downstairs. I was very confused. "Flowers? For me? Are you sure?". They were beautiful and I couldn't stop smiling. It was the cutest thing anyone has ever done for me.

Male grooming with Scaramouche & Fandango - Product review *

I am normally quite up to date with male grooming products but recently I discovered Scaramouche and Fandango. I hadn't heard of this brand before so when they asked if I wanted to review some of their products, I was very happy to oblige.

Within two days of being contacted, I received a lovely parcel in the post containing the 'Fs' Face Scrub and 'Hy' Hydrator. For the past week I have included these in my daily beauty regime and I am already really impressed with the results.

I admit, getting older, a lack of sleep and my party lifestyle hasn't been great for my skin. I always look tired, my complexion is dull and those pesky wrinkles are making more of an appearance. So, when I read that both of these products help to fight fatigue and tighten skin, I was really excited to try them out.

Primark homeware haul

When I get paid, the first thing I will do is go to the nearest store which sells homeware and buy it all. In the month of April, this was Primark. I have always loved the homeware in Primark and I actually don't know how much money I have spent in there.

Storage Box - £5.00
Flamingo Cushion - £4.00
Flamingo Picture Frame - £3.50
Art Deco Double Duvet Set - £12.00
Sweet Pineapple and Ginger Diffuser - £3.00
Sweet Pineapple and Ginger Scented Candle - £2.00
Passion Fruit and Vanilla Cream Scented Candle - £2.00

All together, this came to £31.50 which I think is an absolute steal. I am in love with pastels and art deco style patterns lately which fits in with the rest of my room perfectly. I also recently picked up this lovely little box in the picture below at the Ideal Home Show last weekend which only cost £5. Bargain.

My Easter Bank Holiday Weekend

I have had one of the most relaxing bank holidays in a long time. Normally I would go out and get drunk from Thursday to Sunday but this year was different. Maybe I am getting old.

On the Thursday we got to leave work at 16:00 accompanied by an Easter egg (YES) so I took full advantage and went straight to the pub for a few drinks with my work friends. After that, I went home and got ready to partyyyyy with my boys. They wanted a little feature so you can follow them all on Twitter using the links below haha.

The Ideal Home Show 2015

This year I was kindly invited by British Gas to attend the 2015 Ideal Home Show at Olympia.

I have always wanted to go to this event as I have a huge passion for property developing, interior design and homeware. It was like heaven. My friend Dave and I literally had the best day and took full advantage of the free tasters, especially the cheese, wine and self service teeth whitening stall. Pearly white teeth.

Pretty Little Liars Theory - #CharlesIsA

Pretty Little Liars #CharlesIsA - Bearded Couture

5 years. 5 seasons. 120 episodes. 5280 minutes. The #bigA reveal has left us with more questions than answers. In true Pretty Little Liars style, we as viewers are wondering who the hell is Charles Dilaurentis?

The series finale revealed to us that A is a male and is related to Alison. Past flashbacks have led us to believe that this relative is Alison's twin sister. In one specific flashback we see two identical looking blonde girls fighting over a doll. Another flashback showed a young Alison discovering two identical dresses hidden in the piano with Mrs D encouraging Alison to lie about it to Mr D. But why did Mrs D not want Mr D to find out?

In the finale "Welcome to the dollhouse", Spencer sees a home video of Mrs D with baby Alison and not one, but two brothers. We can only assume that one is Jason but who is the other and how does Jason not remember? What does this have to do with the identical blonde girls in Alison's flashback?

Upon first watch of the home video, the boys and their clothing look identical. But on closer inspection, one has pink shoe laces and the other has blue. Normally with young children boys are generally dressed in blue and girls are dressed in pink. Why would the writers choose to do this?

What if Jason's twin is that little girl from the flashbacks? Picture this. Mrs D has an affair with Mr Hastings to have twins Jason and Charles. Soon after Mrs D has another child with Mr D, Alison. Having his first child, Mr D started to favour his own blood rather than his other two children. Charles becomes jealous of Alison from such a young age and wants to be like her. This could explain the doll flashbacks and why there were two dresses in the piano scene, as the second was for him.

Life as a model - Interview with FM London's Lottie Benson

I first met good friend and model Lottie Benson in 2011 when she moved into my student house at uni in Bristol. It was love at first sight. I have been so excited to collaborate with her for this post and find out what being a model is really like. Lottie is currently with FM London management and I wish her all the luck in the future.

1) How did you get into the modelling industry?
I was first scouted when I was younger but was silly and shy but as I got older I started to do a bit of Freelance work and then walked into an agency!

2) Do you take it personally when you're rejected for a job?
No, I don't at all. You go to so many castings - I forget which ones I've been to by the end of the week. It just makes it even nicer when you do get booked :)

3) How do you cope with the huge pressures the industry puts on models to stay thin?
I think it is different for every model as build/genetics/metabolism and all sorts come into play.  It takes a lot of dedication and commitment physically and mentally to stay in shape, which for me personally consists of a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise, which I enjoy.

4) What is it like being backstage at a shoot or catwalk show?
Depends on the job and whether things are running on time! Some shoots are minimal make up so you get on and shoot lots, some times you're in hair and make-up for hours. Then styling, and re-styling. Sometimes the photographer may know exactly what they're looking for and get the shot quickly and sometimes its all trial and error, experimenting with what looks good. Every job is completely different which is what makes modelling so fun.

5) Is modelling as glamorous as it looks?
It's glamorous in the sense that you can be wearing beautiful clothes and amazing make up.. and also the lifestyle can be glamorous. But It also can be hard work with really long days running around lots of castings come rain or shine, doing lots of jobs for no or little payment.
