Things to do in Cardiff - Bank holiday travel adventure

Instead of going to Paris for May Bank Holiday as planned, we ended up going to the Welsh valleys. Now, you may be thinking 'what did you do in Wales for three days?' but I'll tell you for why.. There is actually a lot of cheap and fun activities to do to fill your time.

As usual, we found our apartment on Airbnb (but this time wasn't overly impressed so I won't share the link) and got the Megabus there and back which only took an extra hour compared to a train and saved us £30. We left early on Saturday morning so we could make the most of the day. After dropping our bags off, we made our way to Cardiff Bay.

The weather wasn't great but this didn't dampen our spirits. To try and keep expenditure to a minimum, we decided to visit a few memorials, the Millennium Stadium and when we got hungry, we went to Wetherspoons.. Don't judge. After a few hours, we started making our way back to the Cardiff city centre for a bit of retail therapy and to see the castle. We thought this was free but you had to pay so we just decided to take pictures of this pretty building instead (we are cheap like that).

On our way back to the apartment, we stopped off to buy some vodka and then got ready for our big night out. Needless to say, I don't really remember leaving but I do remember going back and forth between Pulse and WOW bar, making friends with many lesbians and drag queens. It was great.

The next morning, we went to Barry Island as I am a huge fan of Gavin and Stacey and I have always wanted to go and eat fish and chips by the beach and play games in Nessa's arcade. The train tickets cost us £3.30 each with a railcard so it would have been silly not to. I can honestly say that Barry Island is such a picturesque little town and I could have stayed there for so much longer if our hangovers weren't killing us. Also, the trains there and back on a Sunday run every half hour so keep keep checking your phone for times as we were waiting ages.

We were meant to go out on Sunday night too but we both fell asleep watching Netflix and an Indian takeaway. Whoops. However, Monday soon came and it was time to go home. We spent our last hours walking around town again and stopping in Harvester for lunch. Who can't turn down a free salad bar? I know I can't!

Oh, Dor, where's the salad?
