Jamie Oliver Recipease Mexican lesson review - Notting Hill

A few weeks ago, the boyfriend and I decided that we wanted to do a cooking lesson. I have always wanted to do something like this, so when Luke found a Groupon deal for Jamie Oliver's Recipease Mexican street food in Notting Hill, we booked it there and then. If you book online, the lessons cost £45 per person however, we paid £22.50 each - absolute steal!!

Four of us ended up going to the cooking lesson which started at 19:00 sharp. We were greeted with glasses of champagne from our great host, Rachael who was a great chef and very patient with everyone. She told us that we would be making hand pressed soft corn tortillas, sticky smoked chipotle chicken, sautéed spinach with herbs and feta cheese, and a spicy roasted corn salsa. To accompany this, we were also making Jamie’s smashed guacamole and a chunky tomato salsa.. It's making my mouth water again just thinking about it!

Whilst sipping our champagne, we all gathered around Rachael's workstation where she showed us the first couple of stages. Everyone who came in pairs then went back to their own work station to repeat everything that our chef had just shown us. I will openly admit that I am quite bossy in the kitchen, so I tried my hardest to let Luke do as much cooking as possible. However, this ended in me getting hot oil spat in my face which left a lovely burn on my lip and chin haha.

This step by step process was continued throughout the lesson with Rachael circling our workstations to help us out with any questions we may have, and also to help look after our food.

The final stage was to plate up. When we were watching our expert, she made it look very easy to make the food presentable but if I am honest, I was really happy with the outcome of ours too. It may have even looked better.. But that could just be me being bias. I would also like to confirm that the food tasted as amazing as it looked. The smoky chipotle chicken was tender, the guacamole was the best I have ever tasted and the sautéed spinach with herbs and feta cheese melted in our mouths.

I will definitely be returning to Jamie Oliver's Recipease again as they offer a huge range of lessons from Japanese to Italian which suits individuals who are beginners to advanced. They also offer lessons for kids too which would be a great birthday party!

Sólo un poco picante, por favor.
